Claude Von Stroke – Urban Animal
What a year it has been for the DJ/Producer/Label Owner, Claude Von Stroke. His Dirtybird family have reached new heights and Claude’s incredible live shows have seen him at the top of his game. Dirtybird label nights have grown from humble San Francisco beginnings to an Ibiza residency, with the night showcasing up and coming label talents J Philip, Kill Frenzy and Justin Martin before the man himself steps up to the decks.
The cleverly titled Urban Animal is Barclay Crenshaw’s third studio album with 10-tracks based around a concept of a city dweller that seeks refuge not in the serenity of the outdoors, but in dark and smoky warehouse dancefloors. This concept is reflected in the cover art as well as the music, although this album is not simply a collection of club ready, bass heavy, standard Dirtybird tracks. Von Stroke plays with hip hop interludes and down tempo electronica, yet all tracks still carry a clear VonStroke signature.
The stand out track for me on the album was launched as a single in advance of the full release. “Dood” was described by Claude as “a weird California stoner track in house music”. Not surprising that I dig it. Pretty Casual
